Kwazulu-Natal

South Africa holidays

Overview

Durban, with its sublime Indian Ocean beaches, is typical. It’s a tropical urban gem, growing in sophistication – but what makes it different is its rich ethnic cocktail, with half the population Zulu and a fifth Indian. Inland is the colonial capital of Pietermaritzburg, and further north Zululand and the Battlefields Route; steeped in historic sites and traditional settlements. Over on the western border is Drakensberg – awesome and unforgettable; its dramatic cliffs and panoramas inspiring Middle Earth in a young Tolkien. And dotted throughout are wildlife-rich national parks and isolated coastal reserves. It’s a heady mix alright!
